Honoring Fallen Soldiers Ceremony

Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 28, 2012. Those wishing to attend the ceremony will be given free entry starting at 2:00 p.m. with the ceremony beginning at 2:45 p.m. To explore the Gardens either before or after the event, an admission ticket must be purchased. Visitors are encouraged to bring folding chairs for seating during the ceremony. Shangri La will be open throughout Memorial Day from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for visitors of all ages.
Located at 2111 West Park Avenue in Orange, Texas, Shangri La is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. For more information, call 409.670.9113 or visit www.shangrilagardens.org.

Special Hours--International Museum Day

 Stark Museum of Art will be open for special evening viewing hours on Friday, May 18, 2012, from 5:00 until 8:00PM in honor of International Museum Day. The program will feature spotlight presentations about works of art in museum galleries throughout the evening. Light refreshments will be provided and admission is free of charge. SPRING MUSIC FEST and Chamber Fishing Tournament

   The Texas Cajun Heritage Festival is changing to the SPRING MUSIC FEST in Orange. The Convention and Visitors Bureau for the City of Orange is seeking artists, crafters, food vendors and anyone interested in participating with a booth to call the office for information at 409-883-1011.
  
The Music Fest will be held on Destroyer Drive just off Simmons Drive near the City Boat Ramp.
   Bands will perform on stage throughout the day long event. The lineup of bands will include different genre of music including Country/Western, Cajun and others. The day will begin with a youth group religious band from Beaumont and finish the day with the High Performance Band with Steve Riley.

This one day event will coincide with the first “Do It In Orange Fishing Classic” hosted by the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce at the City Boat Ramp. The fishing tournament will expand to two days. You may contact the chamber for more details about the fishing tournament at 409-883-3536

Art Quest

The Stark Museum of Art will offer free classes for children this summer. Students entering grades 1-5 will have hands-on opportunities to make art and take inspiration from the museum. Students entering grades 6-12 will take on the role of a detective and apply their skills of observation and deduction to art in the galleries; they will also participate in art-making. Registration required; applications are available on our website at www.starkmuseum.org or call 409-886-2787 for details. Classes fill on a first-come, first-served basis.

Each summer, the Stark Museum of Art partners with Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center to offer free Art and Nature EcoRangers Camps.
